About the Song

I was inspired to write this song after watching a World War I film called The Red Baron. During a scene at the end of the movie, there is a poignant moment that is heart breaking. (Spoiler alert if you haven't seen the movie).

A woman crosses over into enemy territory to say “goodbye” to the man she loved, after his plane went down & he didn’t survive.

As she stands at the grave, she speaks as if she was speaking to him, but she is looking at his grave. She tells him, that she was asked by many why she was putting herself into danger to come here (to enemy territory) to say goodbye to him.

She is quite for a moment & then she responds: “I told [him] I love you!”

With tears in her eyes, she says, “Did I ever tell you?”
