Full Spectrum Love

A poem by Aloha Jacqueline

April 6, 2023

So many of us

Spend so much of

Our lives seeking

For the love

Of others.

And at the pinnacle

Of our search

Is the quest for

A love mate

A heart mate

A soul mate.

Yet those who do

Soon realise

It’s nothing like

The books

The movies

The legends

The fantasies.

And those who don’t

May keep looking

Or feel unfulfilled

Or eventually

Realize it too

No human love

Is forever

Even if we found

The love of our life

They will leave us

Through the door

Or through the grave

Everything on Earth

Is temporary.

That

At once upon

A lifetime

Has an

Expiration date.

And that romantic love

Is but one color of the rainbow

One flavour of ice cream.

So if full spectrum love

Is what we seek

Why not savour

All its gifts?

Honoring the love

of each friend

The nuances and joy

Of friendship.

Honoring the love

Of children

Their smiles when they see you

Their clasping of a finger

Of you hand

Their joy

When you spin them in a circle

Round and round

Then beg for more

The love of a child

May be the most precious of all?

Honoring the love of family

Between siblings

Between parent and child

Between you extended branches

Of the tree.

Honoring the love of animals

The wild and free

And the ones who live at home

When they run to you

Or look at you

There is

Love

Everywhere.
