Full Spectrum Love

A poem by Aloha Jacqueline

April 6, 2023

We spend so much of

Our lives seeking

For the love

Of others.

And at the pinnacle

Of that quest is often

The searching for

A love mate

A heart mate

A soul mate.

And those who find

What they were seeking

Often realise

It’s nothing like

The books

The movies

The legends

Or the fantasies.

No human love

Is forever

Even if we found

of find

The love of our life

Sadly, they will leave us

Through the door

Or through the grave.

Everything on Earth

Is temporary.

Once upon a time

Has an

Expiration date

We each have only this lifetime

And romantic love

Is only one color in the rainbow.

So if full spectrum love

Is what we seek

Why not savour

All its gifts?

Why not celebrate the love

of each friend

The nuances and joy

Of heartship

Of friendship.

Why not truely honor the love

Of children

Their genuinue smiles when they see you

Their clasping of a finger

Their joy

When you spin them in circles

Round and round

Then beging for more

Might the love of a child

Perhaps be

The most precious of all?

And why not fully honor the love of family

Between siblings

Between parent and child

Between the extended branches

Of the tree.

The love of animals

The wild and free

And the ones who live at home

There is nothing like it

When they run to you

Or look at you

With eyes of pure love

Reminding us

There is

Love

Everywhere.
